Chiropractic Care
During his 30-plus years of practice, Dr. Chris Kowalik has seen a lot of patients with many different conditions. While chiropractic may not restore optimum health to all, treatment can benefit everyone in some way. Health is a lifelong journey, and we’re here to help every step of the way.
What Is Chiropractic?
Dr. Chris uses the analogy of a three-legged stool to describe the triad of health. The three legs represent the structural, chemical, and mental components of health. If there’s an imbalance on one side, it throws off the balance of the whole stool. In the body, this can show up as a systemic imbalance.
Chiropractic is about bringing balance to the nervous system by adjusting the spine. Your body is controlled by your nervous system and those messages need to travel from the brain to the body, and the body back up to the brain. If that communication is negatively affected, it will create disharmony in the body, so the body will not work to its full potential. If that continues for an extended time, you can manifest symptoms as a result.
Taking a Whole Body Approach
At Life in Balance Wellness, Dr. Chris and his wife, licensed massage therapist Dinah Kowalik, use a whole body approach to your care. While you may come in with one complaint, our focus is to ensure there are no contributing factors which can cause a recurrence.
For example, a patient may present with a lot of back and neck pain. During the consultation, we might discover sleep issues, excessive stress on the job or at home, and they’re 20 pounds overweight. All of these contribute to the initial problem.
Chiropractic care will help but may not address everything. We need to look at your lifestyle habits and identify where you could benefit from making adjustments. Then, we’ll create an individualized, well-rounded care plan that will relieve your pain and help you reach your health goals.
Our Chiropractic Techniques
Before you receive any adjustment, Dr. Chris explains exactly what approach he’ll be using and what that technique will do; he feels education is a major part of every appointment. There are no surprises; you’ll know what’s going to happen.
We want you to be calm and relaxed, which makes the adjustment easier and helps it stay in place longer. If you’re a new patient nervous about being adjusted, Dr. Chris wants you to know you are under no obligation to receive an adjustment after the initial introduction to chiropractic during your appointment. If you still feel uncomfortable after Dr. Chris explains how he will treat you and what techniques he’ll use; you’re free to find a different option for adjustments.
Dr. Chris uses a light-force adjustment technique, which works well for all ages, infants to seniors. Light force technique is not painful, and you won’t hear a lot of “cracking and popping” either. Dr. Chris uses several manual techniques for those patients requiring a “deeper” adjustment.
Other Resources Offered
In addition to the chiropractic care and therapeutic massage offered at Life in Balance Wellness, Dr. Chris has received additional training in functional health areas like thyroid conditions, adrenal health, and blood sugar imbalances over the last three decades. He has also been trained to conduct lab testing for specific areas.
